Mission and Values of a Design team

Fundamentals

The UX & UI Design Chapter at Telenet consists of designers who specialize in user experience and user interface design. We work distributed in different teams and as travelers who are home-based in the Chapter. We work as a centralized design partnership model within the organization.

We grow as user-centered designers, build our design skills and competencies, and ensure efficient workflows that support the quality of our design deliverables.

Design Ops

As a Design Leader and Manager of this team, a community of designers; my goal is to streamline and facilitate design workflows by giving them the tools and best practices they need to do their best work. I enjoy leading and collaborating with such a group of design talent.

Together, we work on design standards to create consistent and intuitive digital user experiences.

To achieve this, all members of the UX & UI design chapter at Telenet need to be on the same page and share a common ground

Mission

In a couple of workshops, we agreed on what good design means to us and what we as Telenet and BASE designers do not want to compromise on. We better understand what matters in good design and how we collaborate. We defined how we want to shape and promote the digital design culture at Telenet.

Our mission reflects our core and defines what we do, the direction we take, how we do it, and the impact we make. It goes hand in hand with our values.

To create meaningful experiences for everyone around us by joining expertise and collaborating to make all Telenet Group user’s life easy.”

Values

These are the principles that are important to UX & UI Design Chapter designers. Building from the Telenet values, they reflect what they mean to Telenet and BASE designers. The goal is to use our values to:

  • shape work within the chapter,
  • facilitate collaboration to develop creative solutions,
  • make decisions in difficult situations,
  • use as arguments with different stakeholders and expertise,
  • improve the quality of our design reviews and deliverables,
  • and to support our meetings daily

we aim higher

We don’t settle. We take ownership and push customer-centricity forward. We aim for the best we can do and aim for high design standards.

we collaborate

We build more together. We hear from everyone, capture diverse perspectives and inspire the community. We work against isolation to include all, to design for all.

we have positive impact

We inspire. We follow and evangelize our design way of working to bring positive impact, for our users and business.

we speak up

We don’t leave it unsaid, we ask the uncomfortable questions and challenge the silence. We are open, respectful, and candid for feedback. We speak up for our users to design better for them and the company.

we put the user first

We advocate for our users. We take decisions based on user insights, design good practices, emotion, and logic. We design intuitive and accessible solutions for our users, first.

They inspire our work, help us make decisions, and give us direction.

We have designed them as printed cards so we can physically play them when the time comes. They are more than referee red soccer cards, they are Magic the Gathering superpowers (Which says a lot about my references…).

They are tokens for good design decisions within the Telenet organization.

Where do we go from here?

The mission and values of the UX & UI Design Chapter are part of the toolkit we are building to work together as a community, even though we are spread across different autonomous teams. Along with the Design System work, design reviews, show and tell, and design syncs, among others; they ensure that we put the user in all our decisions, that we deliver design with quality, and support the company’s mission of putting the customer first.

We were able to showcase the design work and values of the UX & UI Design Chapter at Telenet’s internal fair to the entire company and different departments.

As a design leader, it is important for me to put the designers in the spotlight, support them, and recognize their good work; also in front of our CEO.

More of my work leading designers.
